
Pak’isis Volcano is a quieter alternative to the more popular hikes around the lake, with views over Lake Atitlán and San Pedro Volcano from the summit.
The trail climbs through pine forest before reaching rockier ground near the top.
Choose Your Route:
- Sunrise Ascent: Start in the pre-dawn dark with headlamps, timed to reach the summit as the sun rises over the lake and volcanoes. Departs at 2:00 am. Additional transport cost: Q150.
- Morning Hike: A daylight hike through forest, with wide views from the summit. Departs between 5:00 am and 9:00 am.
Descent Options:
- Return via the Same Trail: Descend the way you came, with a different view on the way down.
- Cerro Panán Descent: For experienced hikers, a more demanding route down to San Juan La Laguna, with additional views along the way and a higher difficulty level.
Hike Details:
- Difficulty: Moderate (6/10) for the ascent, higher for the Cerro Panán descent.
- Distance: 3 km each way on the ascent; distance varies for the Cerro Panán descent.
- Duration: About 3-4 hours up, 2 hours down via the same trail; longer via Cerro Panán descent.
- Includes: Knowledgeable local guide and round-trip transportation from San Juan La Laguna (for the same trail descent).
