Eco Hotel MayAchik is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers to join our team as Gardening Assistants. Our hotel is a peaceful, quiet, vegetarian, and eco-friendly establishment, and we invite like-minded individuals to join us. Meat is not prepared or served on the property, in keeping with our vegetarian kitchen.
This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, appreciate nature, and are interested in sustainable gardening and eco-friendly hospitality. Volunteers will support the care and development of our gardens and green spaces while contributing to the peaceful atmosphere of our property.
Volunteer Activities:
- Garden Maintenance: Care for plants, trees, and green spaces throughout the hotel property.
- Sustainable Gardening Practices: Assist with eco-friendly practices such as composting, soil care, and water conservation.
- Landscape Improvement: Support projects that enhance the beauty and biodiversity of the hotel gardens.
- Water System Monitoring: Help ensure proper water distribution for plants and green areas.
- Composting and Natural Systems: Assist with managing compost areas and other sustainability initiatives.
- Support General Outdoor Tasks: Help maintain pathways, outdoor seating areas, and garden structures.
Work Options:
- Option 1: Work 5 days a week, 5 hours a day, with breakfast provided every day.
- Option 2: Work 5 days a week, 6.5 hours a day, and receive an additional meal on working days.
Schedule:
- Schedules are defined weekly, and volunteers are asked to remain flexible to accommodate any unforeseen events.
- Saturdays and Sundays are always working days.

- Skills:
- Basic gardening knowledge or willingness to learn.
- Ability to work outdoors and perform physical tasks.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Rules:
No Drugs or Smoking: Guatemalan law enforces drug possession strictly, and police check the property regularly. The consequences for being caught can be severe. For that reason, drug use, smoking, and being under the influence of any substance are not allowed anywhere on the property. None of the MayAchik staff smoke, and we ask volunteers to follow the same policy during their stay.
