Embark on an unforgettable hike atop Rostro Maya, the “Indian Nose,” and experience the most spectacular views of Lake Atitlán. Watch the sunrise paint the volcanic landscape, or hike under the day’s warm glow – this adventure offers options to suit your preference and schedule.

Expansive Views: The views from the top of The Mayan Face include a large portion of the lake, and the towns of San Juan, San Pablo, San Marcos, Panajachel, and Santa Clara. You can see the three volcanoes around the lake (San Pedro, Atitlan, and Toliman) and -on a clear morning- watch the three volcanoes of Antigua (Agua, Fuego, and Acatenango).

Choose Your Rostro Maya Experience:

  • 1. Pre-Dawn Hike & Sunrise: Start at 3:00 am for a challenging 2-hour ascent, rewarded by a breathtaking sunrise from the summit. Descend the same way or walk down to Santa Clara and catch a bus back to San Juan.
  • 2. Sunrise with Public Bus: Depart at 3:45 am and take a short bus ride to Santa Clara. Hike 40 minutes to the summit for a stunning sunrise, then choose to walk back to San Juan or take the bus (extra Q20 if you walk down).
  • Sunrise with Private Taxi: Enjoy a convenient round-trip journey with a private taxi departing at 4:00 am. Hike to the summit in 40 minutes and experience the sunrise before returning the same way.
  • Daytime Hike: If sunrises aren’t your thing, embark on this scenic hike between 5:00 am and 10:00 am for equally stunning views under the daylight.

Hike Details:

  • Includes: Private guide, transportation (for selected options), entrance fees.
  • Duration: Approx. 4-6 hours depending on your pace and chosen option.

    • Warm jacket (it gets chilly at the top!)
